GU Politics Announces Fall 2021 Fellows

CARLY KABOT: GU Politics announced a new cohort of fellows for the upcoming spring semester on its website Monday morning. This incredible group brings a diverse set of backgrounds, areas of expertise, and perspectives on the nation’s most pressing issues. From veterans of the campaign trail to the newsroom, this lineup of high-profile fellows are ready to take on Georgetown and welcome students back to campus. 

Among this semester’s fellows is Charlotte Clymer (S’ 16), Former Press Secretary for Rapid Response at The Human Rights Campaign, and a transgender activist and military veteran. This list also features Rory Cooper, the Communications Director to former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), and Senior Staff in the White House Office for Homeland Security during the Bush Administration. Joining them are Ambassador Bob Lighthizer (C’69, L‘73), the US Trade Representative under the Trump Administration, Amna Nawaz, the Chief Correspondent of PBS NewsHour, and Rebecca Pearcey, the Political Director and Senior Advisor of Elizabeth Warren for President. The last member of this impressive cohort is Brian Stelter, the Chief Media Correspondent & Host of “Reliable Sources” at CNN.

The fellows program, now moving into its thirteenth consecutive semester, allows students unparalleled access to some of the most prominent names in politics, government, and media. Whether by attending fellows’ office hours, joining weekly discussion groups, or by applying to join a Student Strategy Team, there are many opportunities for students to take advantage of the fellows program. Beyond applying to be part of a Student Strategy Groups, students are encouraged to go to weekly discussion groups and office hours. 

Here are the discussion groups for fall 2021: 

  • Charlotte Clymer: Advocacy and Communications in the Post- Mondays 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

  • Rory Cooper: Everyone Has An Idea How to Reform Washington- Wednesdays 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

  • Bob Lighthizer: International Trade and U.S. Competitiveness in the 21st Century- Thursdays 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

  • Amna Nawaz: People First-Covering Politics Through A Public Service Lens- Wednesdays 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

  • Rebecca Pearcey: Political Science to Political Directing to Political Power: A Practical Approach- Tuesdays 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.

  • Brian Stelter: Press and Propaganda- Real News, Fake News and Everything In Between- Tuesdays 2:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

As part of a Student Strategy Team, students have the unique chance to work one-on-one with this extraordinary group of practitioners in politics and public service. Students on each of the fellows’ teams help drive the conversation by helping with campus outreach, brainstorming, and tackling ways to solve a variety of our country’s most complex political problems.

Students will first get to meet the fellows on Thursday, September 9 at the GU Politics Fellows Open House to learn more about what these fellows have in store for the semester.
