Trump’s Current Conviction Status
SOPHIE DALFONSI: Donald Trump, former President of the United States, is undergoing mass investigation due to a series of illegal actions that were brought to light. This case has been ongoing for quite some time now, but as of November 22, the Supreme Court gave the green light for the House to look into Trump’s tax returns. Trump invoked lots of backlash when he attempted to hide his tax returns from the House.
Despite this recently opened gateway, Trump is still facing several different convictions. The five major investigations that Trump is currently facing consist of: the classified documents investigation, the January 6th investigation, the Manhattan district attorney's investigation, the Georgia election investigation, and the New York civil case.
The classified documents investigation was sparked due to a stash of files that the FBI discovered in Trump’s possession. Both of which had “classified” and “secret” written on them. Right now, the justice department is working hard to try and recover more potentially unlawfully claimed documents.
The January 6th investigation is ongoing and is centered around the January 6th capitol attack. There is evidence showing that Trump was involved in this organized attack, and that he could very well get charged with involvement.
The Manhattan district attorney's investigation is being revisited after getting ignored for quite some time. Trump allegedly paid a porn star hush money due to an affair that he and the star were having. Not only is this illegal, but this could also uncover more potential hush money cases that Trump could be a part of.
The Georgia election investigation is ongoing and exists due to the belief that Trump tried to overturn the Georgia presidential election votes during the 2020 presidential race. Trump claimed victory in Georgia before vote-counting was concluded.
Lastly, the New York Civil case covers Trump’s lawsuit on New York attorney general Letitia James for challenging Trump’s right to privacy in his Florida home.
All of these cases are currently ongoing, and the FBI is working hard to find new key pieces of evidence that may get them moving even faster. As for now, with the 2024 election coming up, the Supreme Court is assessing their next steps. It looks like they are beginning to increase the speed of their investigations in order to settle the dust.
